| Arts For The
Parks is an annual, worldwide
contest to search for the artists, professional
and nonprofessional alike, whose paintings best
capture the essence of the landscapes, wildlife,
and history of America’s National Park System.
It is the goal of the competition
and the subsequent tour of the top 100 paintings
to exhibit venues across the nation to:
- enhance public awareness of
our national treasures, and
- recognize exceptional artistic
talent.
2004 marked the 18th year of this
competition which draws thousands of entries from
nearly all fifty states and other countries as
well. A panel of judges reviews every entry submitted
and selects the top 100 winners to be circulated
to exhibit venues across the country. The top
prize winner receives an award of $25,000.
For many years Grand Canyon Association,
with support from the Jack Dudley Memorial Fund,
has sponsored a Grand Canyon category. The winner
of this category receives a cash award and the
painting is added to the association’s permanent
collection of Grand Canyon- related art. In 2004
the winner of this award is Ryan Skidmore for
"Ladies in Waiting."
Arts for the
Parks–2004 Top 100 Tour was on display
at Kolb Studio from April 12 through June 5, 2005.
