Why Become a Member?
Stewardship begins with education,
and your support of Grand Canyon Association will
build better stewards of the canyon and other
public lands for generations to come. Grand Canyon
Association members provide vital support to Grand
Canyon National Park’s educational efforts.
As a member, you will support:
- The publication and distribution
of over two million pieces of free informational
literature to park visitors, including the Guide,
Trip Planner, the Accessibility Guide,
translations of the Guide for international
visitors, informational brochures about places
like Kolb Studio, and educational pamphlets
about Grand Canyon geology, wildlife, and more.
- The publication of Grand Canyon-specific
books, posters, postcards, videos, and other
educational materials sold through GCA’s
bookstores, with profits used to support the
programs of the park.
- Educational exhibits at Canyon
View Information Plaza’s Books & More
store and Kolb Studio, and on informational
panels along the Rim Trail.
- Art exhibits in the gallery of
historic Kolb Studio. To further support artwork
at and about Grand Canyon, GCA awards the Grand
Canyon Purchase Award at the annual Arts for
the Parks competition and administers the Jack
Dudley Memorial Fund, which seeks to further
the artistic legacy of Grand Canyon National
Park through the development of GCA’s
permanent collection of Grand Canyon artwork.
- Distribution of free material
to libraries and schools, including our monograph
series, videos through our video loan program,
and educational Travelin’ Trunks—packages
of curriculum-based materials designed to teach
students about the canyon’s geology, ecology,
and human history. GCA believes such activities
allow us to reach a wide audience outside the
park boundaries.
- The Canyon Country Community
Lecture Series in Flagstaff and in Prescott,
both of which feature regional and national
authors, photographers, artists, scientists,
park service rangers, legendary hikers, river
runners, Grand Canyon Field Institute instructors,
and many others speaking about the canyon country
of the Southwest and issues related to the region.
- The Grand Canyon Field Institute
(GCFI), which offers in-depth classes in the
backcountry and on the rims for those seeking
to know Grand Canyon on an intimate scale. As
with art, GCA believes experiences in Grand
Canyon are another important educational tool,
allowing the association to reach audiences
who prefer to learn through hands-on adventures.
- One-on-one visitor information
services by telephone, through e-mail, and face-to-face
with GCA store staff.
- Symposia on the South Rim featuring
leading scholars researching aspects of Grand
Canyon, and the publication of the proceedings
of these symposia.
- Scientific and cultural research
conducted through the park’s Science Center.
These and many other educational
programs at Grand Canyon National Park would not
be possible without the support of GCA members.
