Exhibitions of Jack Dudley Art
Background
- Gallery exhibits featured original Jack Dudley oils and watercolors selected from the collection of 77 Latin and Southwest paintings that the artist's family donated for resale to Grand Canyon Association. GCA, a non-profit organization established to support education and appreciation of Grand Canyon National Park, is custodian of The Jack Dudley Memorial Fund, established by the Dudley family in 1997.
- Proceeds from the sales of Dudley's paintings helped JDMF and GCA underwrite major awards at the prestigious annual Arts for the Parks and the Paint the Parks competitions acquiring distinctive Grand Canyon-inspired artwork for its permanent Kolb Studio public collection.
- These placements have furthered the goal of preserving the beauty of Grand Canyon National Park through art, aided GCA's community outreach beyond traditional in-park education programs, and provided rich contextual opportunities for Arizonans and others intimately to enjoy the art and legacy of Jack Dudley.
- Jack Dudley's work showed in galleries across the country including: The Esther Wells Collection (Laguna Beach, CA), The Mezzanine Gallery (Portland, OR) and the Medicine Man Gallery (Tucson, AZ).
JDMF Supported Activities
Arts for the Parks
The Arts for the Parks competition was created in 1986 by the National Park Academy of the Arts to
celebrate representational artists, to enhance public awareness of the National Parks, and to
contribute to programs benefiting the National Park System. The prestigious contest is an annual
event that honors artists who have best captured the spirit of our National Park System.
The Arts for the Parks Grand Canyon Purchase Award is sponsored by Grand Canyon Association and
the Jack Dudley Memorial Fund to ensure a lasting legacy of art at Grand Canyon National Park.
Artists are encouraged to submit distinctive interpretations of Grand Canyon subject matter in
any medium that demonstrates mastery of technique, composition, color, and light.
