Join us for two solid days of exploration and adventure, both above and below the rim. Traveling on foot and by motor coach, you will experience everything from rock art to raptors, ancient ruins to historic railroads. During your time in the field, your instructor will introduce you to the fascinating geology, interconnected ecology, and rich human history that makes visiting Grand Canyon such a unique experience. After taking in the breathtaking majesty of the mile-deep wonderland, you can retreat to the comfort of your well-appointed room, courtesy of Xanterra South Rim, L.L.C.. Lodging will be provided at the Yavapai West Lodge during peak season and at Maswik South Lodge during the winter months. Both lodges are inside the park, just a short walk from the canyon rim. Dinner, breakfasts, and box lunches are available at the Maswik or Yavapai cafeterias (meal vouchers and retail coupons will be available at check-in). One night is open, allowing you to explore other dining options. Participants also receive a complimentary copy of An Introduction to Grand Canyon Ecology (one per family) and other interpretive materials published and provided by Grand Canyon Association.

As one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon is no stranger to the camera lens. Millions of visitors each year jostle for position at the crowded scenic overlooks, trying desperately to capture the incomprehensible beauty of the world’s most famous canyon. Local photographers have learned when, where, and how to capture the beauty, serenity, and majesty of the Grand Canyon —often from little known vantages. Join one such photographer as he ensures you’re in the right place at the right time to maximize your photographic opportunities along the South Rim. Discussions about composition, lighting, and technique will blend with Grand Canyon geology, ecology, and climate during this unique workshop designed for both beginner and novice photographers. Come away with a few “keepers” for your portfolio as you discover the many faces of the grandest canyon of them all.
