Echoes Through Time (54 min.)*
This general Grand Canyon video contains a broad spectrum of information on natural and human history. It contains a number of interesting sections narrated by Grand Canyon National Park rangers. Good overall introduction-or you could view just the parts appropriate to your study.
Arizona Highways-Grand Canyon (60 min.)
A single narrator provides a wide range of information on Grand Canyon natural and human history. Includes great Colorado River footage and discussion of Mary Colter's architectural legacy at Grand Canyon.
Canyon Song (33 min.)
Take your students below the rim to explore the canyon from the hiker's perspective. Natural and human history and more are included-a shorter overview for those with younger students or less time.
Grand Canyon Suite (32min)
Grofe's Grand Canyon Suite is the sound track of this interesting video. There is no narration. It includes scenes of canyon plants, animals, mules and riders, storms, and the Colorado River appropriately matched to the music. It could be used in a variety of ways to stimulate writing and arts projects.
The Rock Cycle (22 min.)
The Rock Cycle illustrates one of the classic concepts of earth science: rocks evolve and transform from one type to another in a never ending cycle. This video focuses on the basics of geologic processes rather than on Grand Canyon specifically. A perfect accompaniment to Rainbow of Stone or other Grand Canyon natural history videos.
River Song: A Natural History of the Colorado River in Grand Canyon (40 min.)
The Colorado River is the lifeblood of Grand Canyon. This film explores this isolated river and its animals, plants, and geology. It contains a lot of river footage and covers John Wesley Powell's historic journey of 1869.
Lost in the Grand Canyon (60 min.)*
This film tells the dramatic story of the famous John Wesley Powell expedition through the uncharted Green and Colorado Rivers in 1869. Partial reenactment makes this video more exciting and real to viewers. The narration draws from Powell's journal entries.
Rainbow of Stone: A Journey through Deep Time in the Grand Canyon (40min)*
This is a beautiful film that helps students explore the geologic story of deep time revealed at Grand Canyon. Consider, if time allows, viewing once for the sheer beauty of it, and again to focus on the geology and take notes.
