How to Get Here
Most GCFI classes originate on Grand
Canyon’s South Rim. The South Rim can be
reached by plane, car, bus, or train.
Fly
Many people
fly to Phoenix and rent a car for the four-hour
drive. Air service is available from Las
Vegas, Nevada, to Grand Canyon National Park Airport,
located ten miles from the South Rim.
For flights
to Grand Canyon National Park Airport from North
Las Vegas, call Scenic
Airlines at (800) 634-6801.
Bus
For information
on seasonal daily bus service from Phoenix/Sky
Harbor Airport or Flagstaff, Arizona, to Grand
Canyon, call
Open Road Tours at (800) 766-7117 or Flagstaff Express at 928 225-2290.
Drive
Many people choose to drive to Grand Canyon. GCFI encourages ride sharing with fellow classmates as
another option. Please call the GCFI office to
explore this option.
Drive Times to the South Rim
Phoenix to Grand Canyon - 4 hours
Flagstaff to Grand Canyon - 1.5 hours
Las Vegas to Grand Canyon - 5 hours
Classes that originate on the North Rim generally
require car rental, as public transportation is
limited.
Train
A once daily train runs from Williams, AZ. to Grand Canyon Village. Check Grand Canyon Railway for more information.
Camping
Rim-based campsites are included
free of charge for most classes. Space
is limited, so sites may be shared with other
participants. GCFI sites are generally too small
to accommodate RVs. If you require a site with
a hookup (available only on the South Rim), you
need to reserve and pay for your own site by calling
Xanterra
Parks & Resorts at (888) 297-2757.
Lodging
Rooms at Maswik Lodge in the
park have been set aside for most South Rim classes.
Ask for a lodge reservation form when you register
for a class. Unsecured rooms are released thirty-five
days prior to the start of the class. Other lodging
is available outside the park. For information
on reservations outside the park, call the Grand
Canyon Chamber of Commerce at (928)
638-2901. GCFI does not set aside rooms for North
Rim classes. North Rim Lodge reservations can
be made through Forever Resorts.
