Each year in March, honoring National Youth Art Month, Kolb Studio hosts an exhibition of artworks created by the children at Grand Canyon School. Children in grades kindergarten through twelve are encouraged to reflect on the privilege of growing up in a place as special as the Grand Canyon, and to translate their impressions into visual and literary art forms.
The theme for 2007’s exhibition, “Legacies,” challenges students to consider the importance of history and tradition in their lives. The legacy they ponder may be their own cultures and families, the history of people or institutions connected with the Grand Canyon, or the protection of wild places for future generations of the World to enjoy.
We are always surprised and delighted to see how young minds shape responses to such a question, and this year’s exhibition is no disappointment.
