Use Grand Canyon as Your Classroom

Canyon Field School believes in the importance of professional development opportunities for educators and interpreters. We periodically offer a variety of professional development programs intended to give educators and interpreters the materials, tools, and opportunities they need to bring Grand Canyon to their students. Each professional development program is uniquely designed to meet the needs of specific educators and is created using industry standards and best practices. 

Our staff are specially trained to provide professional development programs in a fun, educational, and useful way. 

All Professional Development programs include:

                      All inclusions are subject to availability, weather conditions, group dynamics, and CFS staff discretion. 


  • Some meals and snacks for the duration of the program (for multi-day programs participants will be in charge of their own dinners)
  • Program curriculum guides and materials to take home
  • Program staffing and facilitation
  • Admission into Grand Canyon National Park

  • Special access to NPS private and behind-the-scenes areas
  • At least 1 longer guided hike (subject to weather conditions, group dynamics, and CFS Staff discretion)
  • Amazing networking opportunities

Upcoming Programs

 August 2 - 4, 2019

Teachers, come camp at Grand Canyon to start off the school year right! This Friday evening through Sunday seminar includes hands-on lesson plans, free resources, collaboration, opportunities, and strategies for including Grand Canyon in your classroom. Throughout the weekend we will explore the Canyon together with hikes, tours, and learning activities. Accommodations, breakfast, and lunch are provided with the cost of the program. Accommodations are at Waldron Camp, a private camp site equipped with bunk tents and bathrooms. Educators will need to bring a sleeping bag or sheets for their bunk. 

 Participant Max: 24

Cost: $30.00 (AZ educators)

 Educator Trip to Indian Gardens

Educators will immerse themselves in Grand Canyon by hiking to and camping at the historic Indian Gardens site along Bright Angel Trail. Participants will receive tips on how to recreate field experiments in the classroom and enjoy a collaborative networking experience. Materials for classroom connections will be passed out at the end of the program.

Interpretive Guide Courses
 

Canyon Field School, in partnership with the National Association for Interpretation (NAI), offers professional certification courses for individuals who deliver (or will be delivering) interpretive non-formal and informal education programs or have public contact at interpretive sites.  

Participant Max: 15

 

Course only: $230.00

Course + CIG Certification: $380.00

Housing at Waldron Camp: $30/night
