Grand Canyon Celebration of Art

September 11, 2021 - January 17, 2022

About the Event

The 13th Annual Celebration of Art will be September 11, 2021 - January 17, 2022.

Celebration of Art (CoA) is a wonderful tradition at Grand Canyon National Park, providing a vibrant experience for visitors, a venue for artists inspired by the canyon, and a successful fundraiser to benefit a dedicated art venue and arts programming at the park. For this year's event, we are welcoming back all of our 2020 artists.

Since 2009, CoA has invited participating artists to paint “en plein air” (outside on location) for a week at the Canyon. The works produced from the event will be available for purchase online and on display at historic Kolb Studio for a four-month sale and exhibition beginning September 19, 2021.

For additional information about CoA or questions, contact Kathy Duley at kduley@grandcanyon.org or (480) 277-0458.

Schedule of Events

Unless otherwise noted, events are free with park admission and open to the public with CDC guidelines in place.

Similar to last year, bid online for artist paintings prior to the plein air event starting September 11, 2021.

Where: All over the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, Artists Paint Grand Canyon

Artists will be at the South Rim painting en plain air where park visitors will have the opportunity to watch the artists paint as they seek to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing landforms, and extraordinary colors of this vast landscape. Most artists prefer to paint mornings and evenings when the canyon is most vibrant.

Please practice physical distancing while observing the artists and respect their space.

All artists paint together along the rim near Verkamp's Visitor Center from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Artists can be found painting between Verkamp's Visitor Center and Thunderbird Lodge in the village for a group Paint Out. This is a great time for visitors to ask questions and engage with artists (from a safe distance) while they are creating their beautiful plein air paintings. We will be sharing a live feed of this event on Facebook and YouTube for those who cannot join in-person.

All completed paintings will be available for purchase on-site from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Online and at Kolb Studio

All available work will be for sale online at shop.grandcanyon.org with proceeds going towards a fund to establish a dedicated art venue and educational programming at the South Rim.

Kolb Studio is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. For a private appointment at Kolb Studio to view the artwork, contact Kathy Duley at kduley@grandcanyon.org or (480) 277-0458
