Mask-Making Workshop

Join Grand Canyon’s Artist in Residence, Carlos Estévez, in a mask-making workshop for children. Two workshops will be held on April 27th and April 28th from 3:30 - 4:30pm.

Learn about the history of masks throughout human civilization and their use across different cultures and historical periods. Delve into the symbolism and philosophy behind masks before creating your own mask with recycled materials and everyday art supplies.

Grand Canyon Conservancy welcomes Carlos Estévez as Artist in Residence at Grand Canyon National Park from April 8 – May 31, 2024. Estévez is the recipient of the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant, the Cintas Foundation Fellowship in Visual Arts, The Ellies Creator Award, and the Grand Prize in the First Salon of Contemporary Cuban Art in Havana. He graduated from the University of Arts (ISA) in Havana and solo exhibitions of his work have been presented at the National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana; Tucson Museum of Art, Arizona; The Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at FIU, Miami; Center of Contemporary Art, LO; Lowe Art Museum at University of Miami, FL.
