Lengthy backpacks in remote regions over rough, steep terrain on unmaintained trails.

Distances: 
May exceed 11 miles per day
Trail Conditions: 
Unpaved, uneven, unmaintained, steep with loose surface, narrow in sections, 1–2 feet wide when trail present, some off-trail, some route-finding, step height up to 3 feet
Suggested Prior Experience: 
Superior physical fitness, prior Grand Canyon backpacking strongly recommended, comfortable with rock scrambling
Special Note(s): 
Increase the class Hike Level by 1 between late May and mid-September
