Celebration of Art (CoA) is a wonderful tradition at Grand Canyon National Park, providing a vibrant experience for visitors, a venue for artists inspired by the canyon, and a successful fundraiser to benefit a dedicated art venue at the park.
Founded in 2009, CoA invites participating artists to paint "en plein air" (outside on location) for a week at the South Rim of Grand Canyon. Artists are tasked with capturing the ever-changing colors and light as the sun moves across the intricate layers of the canyon. Paintings produced during this special event are shared with the public during a four-month sale and exhibition online and at Historic Kolb Studio.
This year's event will kick off with an online auction on September 2, an on-site component September 10-17, and an exhibition and sale September 18, 2022, through January 16, 2023. We will be welcoming back some of our veteran artists and several new additional artists this year. See below for a complete list of who will be joining us this year.
Unless otherwise noted, events are free with park admission and open to the public with CDC guidelines in place.

Bid in the online auction between Friday, September 2, and Saturday, September 17, 2022.
Bidding will start at 8 a.m. on Friday, September 2, and will continue until 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 17. You can preview and register for the online auction now and once it goes live, you can start bidding.
To start bidding, create an account online and make sure to sign up for text notifications for bid updates. You can use the star icon on each painting to watch that item and even set up auto bids. During this time, you can also vote for the artist who should win the People’s Choice Award. After you view all the online auction paintings, cast your bid for your favorite artist online.
After the auction closes promptly at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 17, winning bidders will be notified by text message. Payments will be processed to the credit card on file for all winning items following the online auction close.
Attention - If you will need your painting shipped, please make sure you select this Shipping & Handling "Instant Item" option when you place your bid. This will place the shipping fee on your account and will be charged at the closing of the auction with your winning piece.
Artists will be at the South Rim painting "en plain air," where park visitors will have the opportunity to watch the artists paint as they seek to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing landforms, and extraordinary colors of this vast landscape. Most artists prefer to paint mornings and evenings when the canyon is most vibrant.
Please practice physical distancing while observing the artists and respect their space.
Artists will paint together along the rim together for a special Paint Out event. This is a great time for visitors to ask questions and engage with artists while they are creating their beautiful plein air paintings.
All completed paintings will be available for purchase on-site.
Join us at one of our Gallery Previews for early access to the 2022 Celebration of Art exhibition. Light appetizers and drinks will be served and attendees can purchase art during this time as well.
The Previews will be available on Saturday, September 17th, at 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. Cost is $50 per person. Spots are limited and registration is required. Sign up here.
All available artwork will be available for sale online at shop.grandcanyon.org, with proceeds going towards a fund to establish a dedicated art venue at the South Rim.
Kolb Studio is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Private appointments will be available to view the artwork. For details, contact Kathy Duley at firstname.lastname@example.org or (480) 277-0458.
