Each year, a group of artists gather at Grand Canyon National Park for the Celebration of Art presented by Grand Canyon Association. The event kicks off plein air painting (painting in the open air) at Grand Canyon. The paintings are then exhibited and sold. Proceeds from the event go toward a fund to establish an art venue at Grand Canyon. Click here to see the 2017 Grand Canyon Celebration of Art studio pieces.

This event features thirty artists from around the country who will engage in a plein air competition and exhibition. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the artists paint as they seek to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of this vast landscape.
Where: Museum Collection, 2C Albright Avenue
As part of the Celebration of Art events, the Museum Collection will be hosting an open house showing of some of the artwork housed in the Collections facility. This will include pieces by Thomas Moran, Gunnar Widforss, Fred Kabotie, Hiroshi Yoshida, Ralph Love, Robert Williams, and many other artists. Registration is not necessary.
Shrine of the Ages Auditorium, Betsy Fahlman will present "Staggered by the Vast Panorama: Women Artists and Grand Canyon"
All artists paint along the rim between Verkamp's and Kolb Studio.
Artists will have two hours to complete a painting of Grand Canyon. Viewers will be able to watch as blank canvases rapidly transform into stunning scenes.
Bright Angel Trailhead
Go home with a work of art! Immediately following the Quick Draw, the paintings that have been created will be auctioned off to the public. Proceeds will go towards establishing a permanent art venue at the South Rim.
Join us for the grand opening of the Celebration of Art exhibition. Each of the participating artists has painted a studio painting for Celebration of Art. These paintings will be exhibited along with the plein air work they paint during the event, and all works will be for sale. Proceeds will go towards a fund to establish a permanent art venue at the South Rim.

Celebration of Art is a wonderful tradition at Grand Canyon National Park, providing a vibrant experience for visitors, a venue for artists inspired by the canyon, and a successful fundraiser to benefit a permanent art venue at the South Rim. Art plays a critical role in the appreciation of our national parks, and this event helps to keep the artistic tradition part of the Grand Canyon experience.
Since its inception in 2009, Celebration of Art has invited participating artists to paint “en plein air” (outside on location) for a week at Grand Canyon. The works produced during this time are shown alongside studio-produced pieces at the historic Kolb Studio in an Exhibition and Sale that takes place over four months.
Visitors have the opportunity to watch the artists paint along the South Rim as they interpret the ever-shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of this vast landscape. In addition, there are free artist demonstrations scheduled at various locations at the canyon during the week.
