Dr. Adeene Denton

Astronomer in Residence, 2024

Dr. Denton is a geologist and planetary scientist interested in giant impacts and their influence on the formation and evolution of icy satellites and ocean worlds in our solar system. Adeene uses a combination of numerical tools, from shock physics modeling to finite element software, to explore the effects of giant impacts, which begin in the first few seconds after impact and can extend for hundreds of millions of years. During her time at in residency, Denton choreographed and performed a short site-specific dance that explores the geologic history of Grand Canyon, the formation of planets, and how we as humans physically embody those same forces to build deeper connections with the world around us. Adeene also hosted many programs for the public to enjoy on a variety of topics from planteray history to geology and astronomy and participated in Lowell Observatory's I Heart Pluto Festival.
