Grand Canyon is located in northern Arizona. The national park spans the Colorado River from Glen Canyon Dam in the east to the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead in the west, a distance of 277 miles (455 km).

Both the North Rim Lodge and the South Rim’s Grand Canyon Village are accessible via two-lane highways. The South Rim is open year-round, and the North Rim is open from mid-May to mid-October each year, unless early or late snows make the road impassable.

Drive

Many people choose to drive to Grand Canyon. Travel is on two-lane highways. Few amenities, including gas, are available between Flagstaff and the South Rim, so please plan accordingly.

Drive Times to the South Rim (approximate):
Phoenix to Grand Canyon via I-17, I40, and Hwy 64 – 4 hours
Flagstaff to Grand Canyon via Hwy 180 and Hwy 64 – 1.5 hours
Las Vegas to Grand Canyon via Hwy 93, I-40, and Hwy 64 – 5 hours

Fly

Many people fly to Phoenix and rent a car for the four-hour drive. Air service is available from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Grand Canyon National Park Airport, located 10 miles from the South Rim. Bus

Train

A once-daily train runs from Williams, Arizona, to Grand Canyon Village. Check Grand Canyon Railway for more information.

Open from May 15 to October 15 each year, to reach the North Rim, you may drive south from Fredonia or Page, Arizona, or north from the South Rim, traversing the Navajo Reservation. Travel on Highway 67 is on two-lane highways. Few amenities, including gas, are available, so please plan accordingly. Limited shuttle service is available from the South Rim on TransCanyon Shuttle (928) 638-2820.
