Lipan Point Rehabilitation and Site Improvements

Improving visitor access and experiences at one of Grand Canyon's most popular viewpoints.

Lipan Point Current Conditions

Lipan Point Accessibility Improvements

Lipan Point is one of Grand Canyon's most popular viewpoints, offering sweeping canyon views and access to the Tanner Trail, a favorite route for backpackers heading into the inner canyon.

This project will improve safety, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience by replacing worn pavement with a durable, level surface that provides easier access to the canyon rim. A new accessible ramp and improved pathways will help visitors of all abilities enjoy this iconic destination, while thoughtful upgrades—including stone retaining walls, improved trail access, and stabilized walkways—will better protect the landscape and enhance long-term durability.

These highly visible improvements will benefit the thousands of hikers, backpackers, families, and sightseers who visit Lipan Point each year while preserving the natural character of the overlook.

Your generous gift will fund visible improvements that visitors will experience every day, including:

  • Removing and recycling deteriorated asphalt from the parking area, sidewalks, and viewpoint.
  • Installing new, durable paving and a stable base to create smooth, accessible pathways.
  • Constructing hand-built stone retaining walls to support walkways, protect the rim, and blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape.
  • Installing a new bench to allow visitors to sit and enjoy the view.
  • Building improved trail access, including new stone steps and an ADA-accessible ramp.
  • Providing the specialized equipment, skilled stone masons, and construction crews needed to complete the work safely and efficiently.

Every gift helps create a safer, more welcoming, and more accessible experience for the hikers, backpackers, families, and visitors who come to Lipan Point to experience one of Grand Canyon's most iconic overlooks.
